South Shore Bank Chief Executive Officer James Dunphy Receives Boy Scouts Mayflower Council Distinguished Citizens Award

South Shore Bank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James M. Dunphy was honored by the Boy Scouts of America Mayflower Council with its 2022 Distinguished Citizen Award. Dunphy received the top honor at the annual Mayflower Council Distinguished Citizen Awards Dinner held at Lombardo’s in Randolph. The Distinguished Citizen Award honors leaders whose longstanding commitment to youth, community, and humanitarianism exemplifies the spirit of Scouting.

Dunphy was presented the award by Bridgewater State University President Frederick W. Clark, Esq. A BSU graduate, Dunphy consistently gives back to his alma mater and helped make new Credit Training courses available for underserved students. Dunphy leads South Shore Bank with a philosophy of sharing success to help people and strengthen communities. He founded Leadership South Shore, an immersive learning program that creates transformative leaders in all South Shore communities. He also serves on the boards of many nonprofit and business organizations, including the South Shore YMCA, South Shore Chamber of Commerce, and South Shore Workforce Development. He also spends countless hours volunteering his time for a variety of nonprofits that help those in need.

Dunphy delivered a heartfelt acceptance speech reflecting on what the Boy Scouts means to him. “I was a Boy scout at Camp Squanto. Back then, my family couldn’t afford to send me to camp. There were a group of scouting leaders that found out and put together the funds for me to go to camp. It was a great experience and those acts of kindness are what helped shape me into who I am today. I have been given a great opportunity to lead a fantastic organization with a great team that gives us a chance to give back to the community. To those who volunteer in scouting you make a great impact and I want to say thank you,” said Dunphy.

The Mayflower Council also honored Scouter and Community Volunteer Arnold Briggs, who received the Distinguished Scouter Award for providing outstanding civic service to the adults and/or youth in the community. Acella Construction Corporation, with President David Dirubbo accepting, was presented with the Twenty First Century Leadership Award for consistently setting the pace for corporate leadership and philanthropic support of the South Shore and MetroWest communities. New England Patriots Special Teams Captain Matthew Slater was the special guest speaker and Boston 25 News Sports Director Butch Stearns served as Master of Ceremonies.
