During a federal government shutdown, rest assured—your money is safe, our Banking Centers are open, and you can still access all our digital banking services.

If you are a government employee experiencing paycheck delays or furloughs due to the federal government shutdown, South Shore Bank is committed to supporting you during this challenging time. As your local community bank, our team recognizes the unique difficulties you may be facing and is prepared to listen and work with you to explore possible solutions for your financial needs.

Keeping your money safe

At South Shore Bank all deposits are insured in full. Each depositor is insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to at least $250,000. All deposits above the FDIC insurance amount are insured by the Depositors Insurance Fund (DIF).

We are available to assist furloughed federal employees, federal contractors, and other clients affected by changes to federal benefits resulting from the U.S. Government shutdown.   • Eligible Fees refunded during the U.S. Government Shutdown – Impacted clients may request refunds on certain fees, such as Overdraft Fees, Non-South Shore Bank ATM Fees, and Monthly Maintenance Fees.* 
  • Certificate of Deposit – If impacted clients need access to the funds in their Certificate of Deposit (CD), we will waive the early withdrawal penalty on a CD.*
  • Loan Assistance – Clients who are experiencing difficulty making mortgage or home equity payments to South Shore Bank as a result of financial hardship caused by the government shutdown are encouraged to contact our Loan Servicing team to discuss available options for short-term relief.*


*Proof of government-employee status may be requested.

Have you set up Automatic Bill Payments?

If you have established automatic bill payments through South Shore Bank's mobile or online Bill Pay services, you might consider temporarily suspending these automatic payments until your regular paychecks resume.
